A former NFL safety is coming out of retirement to play for Jim Harbaugh and the Los Angeles Chargers.
Harbaugh is keen on bringing a Super Bowl to his new team following his national championship win earlier this year. And, while he’s seen the roster stripped down, losing its best receiver, he will get some help from a veteran.
NFL insider Jordan Schultz reports that Tony Jefferson is set to come out of retirement and join the team after impressing at a minicamp tryout.
There will be some familiarity for Jefferson in L.A. He previously worked with Chargers general manager Joe Hortiz during his stint with the Baltimore Ravens.
Jefferson went undrafted in 2013 after playing college football at Oklahoma. He spent his first four seasons in the league with the Arizona Cardinals before joining the Ravens in 2017.
The 32-year-old tore his ACL in 2019, cutting his time with the Ravens short. They released him in early 2020, but he would join the San Francisco 49ers after sitting out the season that year. He made two appearances for the Niners and was waived in December.

The safety returned to the Ravens and would also spend a brief spell with the New York Giants before announcing his retirement last May.
The Jim Harbaugh Era Has Gotten Underway In L.A.
Jefferson worked as a scout for Baltimore last year but will look to get back on the field under Jim Harbaugh, who took over the Chargers following Brandon Staley’s departure.
The former Michigan head coach will look to stamp his brand on the team and turn things around following a dismal and frustrating season in L.A.
Fans are looking forward to seeing whether he can make a meaningful impact in his first season in charge. Of course, after the campaign they just had, it’s a tall task. But Harbaugh’s credentials suggest he can coach the Chargers to a winning season.
