Real-life Nami cosplayer with the anime character from the One Piece anime

The One Piece anime series has been a longtime source of inspiration for cosplayers to recreate their favorite characters in real life. One talented anime cosplayer recently transformed herself into the lovely “Nami-swan” in her unforgettable Whole Cake Island get-up.

The Japanese entertainment website Inside-Gaming profiled an amazing anime cosplayer who goes by @/yumeyua0314 on social media platform X (formerly Twitter). yumeyua0314 has a strong history of transforming herself into various anime characters, such as Ai Hoshino from Oshi no Ko, Makima from Chainsaw Man and Violet Evergarden from the titular Kyoto Animation series. In the Inside-Gaming article, yumeyua0314 is dressed as Nami in the fantastic outfit she wore during the “Whole Cake Island” arc of One Piece.

The Nami cosplay photos were taken at the Nico Nico Chokaigi 2024 event in Japan. While the anime convention previously restricted visitors during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, it resumed from online-only to personal attendance in 2022. This year’s Nico Nico Chokaigi saw over 120,000 in-person attendees. yumeyua0314 was one of those attendees, who modeled her rendition of Nami for the press and fellow anime fans.

Nami’s Whole Cake Island Arc Outfit Is Inspired by the German Dirndl Dress

Nami’s outfit is made up of a corset skirt and blouse in red and white colors. The style of the outfit — as joked about in the anime itself — gives off a “pretzel girl” look to Nami during her adventures at Whole Cake Island. The outfit itself is also reminiscent of a dirndl, which is a folk costume from Germany from the 16th and 18th centuries — an appropriate source of fashion, as Germany is renowned for its sweets, and Whole Cake Island, as the name suggests, is themed after tasty pastries and cakes.

The “Whole Cake Island” arc of One Piece centers on Nami, Monkey D. Luffy and the rest of the Straw Hat Pirates as they strive to save their friend and chef, Sanji, from his arranged marriage with Charlotte Pudding of the Charlotte Family. The Charlotte Family is led by Charlotte Linlin, who commonly goes by the name of “Big Mom.” As one of the Four Emperors, Big Mom’s strength and influence is no laughing matter, and even after the conclusion of “Whole Cake Island,” Big Mom and her family continue to show up in “Wano Country” as well as One Piece Film: Red.

One Piece is available on streaming services like Crunchyroll and Netflix. The live-action series is also available on Netflix and currently in production for Season 2. Viz Media handles the English distribution of the original and ongoing One Piece manga.
