Bronny James' dream of playing with LeBron on the Lakers could be DASHED for the 2024/25 NBA season

Arguably the top storyline entering the 2024/25 NBA season is not whether the Boston Celtics can repeat as

champions. It’s not whether Luka Doncic can lead the Dallas Mavericks back to the Finals, nor is it whether Paul George and Joel Embiid can team up to guide the Philadelphia 76ers to a first title in four decades.

No, the top story entering the new season this fall is whether (more like when) LeBron and Bronny James will take to the court together as Los Angeles Lakers teammates — and the first active father-son duo in NBA history. While the Lakers‘ decision to draft Bronny in April has been met with continued scrutiny and debate, it seems like the franchise is on the verge of making a sound decision for the 19-year-old’s future.

Lakers make Bronny decision

According to The Athletic‘s Jovan Buha, the Lakers are poised to send Bronny to the developmental G League to start the season — and he is likely to play with the South Bay Lakers for much, if not all, of the 2024/25 league year.

Incoming head coach J.J. Redick had previously said that Bronny would spend some time in the G League as a rookie, despite his impressive end to the Summer League tournament last month. The former USC Trojans guard is reportedly “far from a rotation-caliber player” at this early stage in his development, although he has flashed potential to be a solid defender with a good three-point shot at the NBA level.

Bronny would face an uphill battle as a rookie competing for minutes with guards D’Angelo RussellGabe VincentMax Christie, and Austin Reaves. The Lakers’ recent first round picks, Dalton Knecht and Jalen Hood-Schifino, would also be prioritized for NBA minutes ahead of Bronny, despite the teenager’s bloodline.

While LeBron may not be too happy about this development, the King is firmly focused right now on bringing home a gold medal at the Summer Olympic Games in ParisTeam USA will face Nikola Jokic and Serbia on Thursday, with a spot in the gold medal game on the line.
