Jordan’s presence was too much to handle for Harold’s golfer friend.

Regardless of the achievements and accolades attained by a sports personality or athlete in their respective field, encountering Michael Jordan and withstanding his immense aura is a challenge not everyone can easily overcome. PGA Tour Pro Harold Varner III shed light on the same reality by highlighting an incident involving his fellow professional golfer, Will, who was so intimidated by His Airness’ presence that he almost passed out.

Varner III on how his friend wasn’t able to withstand MJ’s presence

It comes as no surprise that Jordan has always sought to surround himself with the best individuals, regardless of the activity he engages in. Regarding golf, he enjoys competing against PGA Tour Pros such as Brook Koepka, Rickie Fowler, and Harold Varner III, among others.

During his appearance on GOLF’s SUbpar podcast, HV3 revealed that while he may have been able to hold his own against the six-time Finals MVP, the same could not be said for his friend, who played at Auburn University. He simply wasn’t able to handle the pressure of playing against Mike.

“Will, I think he sh*t his pants,” Varner said. “He literally couldn’t breathe. He was like, ‘Do you understand I’m playing with the GOAT?’ I was like, ‘I totally do, and you’re going to pay him 100 bucks if you don’t play well.’ So he gets up there, and he hits a good drive down No. 2, and then he has 70 yards, and I’ll bet you he hit it twenty yards. Twenty yards!”

While it may seem like a simple shot for a professional golfer, Jordan’s presence was so intimidating that Will missed a put he would typically make with ease.

HV3 on how severe his friend’s nervousness was

Furthermore, after completing his final hole, Varner III’s friend checked his heart rate and discovered that it had soared to an astonishing 159 beats per minute. This alarming increase in his heart rate was solely due to the fact that he played against MJ – a revelation that left HV3 completely stunned.

“Dude, that’s like running a sprint!” Varner added. “I knew he was nervous, but I didn’t know he might pass out.”

Safe to say, such an incident serves as a testament to the overwhelming and intimidating presence of MJ. No matter the professional expertise of an individual in their respective field, Jordan’s aura was so powerful that it led to even the best losing their composure.
