Even before the 2024 NBA Draft came close, basketball fans began speculating about LeBron James’ eldest son Bronny’s future. The franchise that has been majorly linked with the young guard is the LA Lakers, where his father would certainly like to see him. However, NBA analyst Stephen A. Smith doesn’t want Junior James to be drafted by his father’s team.

Following the opening-round draft, ESPN’s First Take hosts Smith and CJ McCollum sat to discuss the other remaining prospects. Regarding Bronny, the 56-year-old stated, “I would tell you Denver and Philadelphia are teams that come to my mind.”

Justifying his point, the veteran analyst said, “I think that when your offense, the number one option on your offense is your bigs, and you’re focusing on them… you as a guard, particularly somebody that’s coming off the bench that’s known more so for your defensive prowess… I think you have an opportunity to learn more and even when you get on the court, there’s so little that’s required of you compared to somebody that’s looking for offensive production from their guard play.”

Smith feels that the 19-year-old will face a lot of unnecessary pressure in the LA franchise, especially now, when every eye will be on the newly appointed HC, JJ Redick, and his strategies.

Being the son of the franchise’s superstar, a lot will be expected from Bronny. So, unless he goes to the G-League, he should not settle in Los Angeles, according to the analyst.

On one hand, Smith wants to save Bronny from the embarrassment, and on the other, a radio host sarcastically comments on the embarrassment his father would face if he fails to make it on day two of the NBA draft.

More Surprising Bronny James Landing Spots Revealed

Recently during the Ben Maller Show, the host dedicated a chunk of the episode to talking about the consequences the Lakers’ GM Rob Pelinka will face if Bronny James goes undrafted. Belittling Bronny for his unimpressive numbers with USC, Maller disclosed the Raptors’ interest in him.

Then he went on to say how no one discussed anything negative about Bronny, indicating LeBron’s influence on everyone in the league.“Because if he’s not picked, LeBron will turn into a fire-breathing dragon. You better not embarrass LeBron James,” added Maller directing towards the GM.

LeBron James, like any father, would be disheartened to see Bronny not drafted on Thursday night. However, Maller’s extreme reaction is only possible because of the “Mob LeBron” he thinks exists.
