Accompanied by an armada of stars for the Paris Olympic Games, LeBron James will play with Kevin Durant in particular under the colors of Team USA.
But while the latter has just given credibility to a crazy scenario, the King made sure to calm things down.
American fans have been waiting for no less than twelve years to see him defend his country’s colors on the FIBA stage.
Crowned Olympic champion in 2008 and 2012 with Team USA, LeBron James hopes to do the same this summer in Paris.
In any case, his team is coming forward as the big favorite for the tournament, and what could be more logical given the XXL squad that will accompany them.
LeBron rejects Kevin Durant’s outstretched hand
Eager to put the United States back on top of international basketball after witnessing the fiasco of the last World Cup, James has therefore accepted Steve Kerr’s invitation to the 2024 Olympics.
This, while he will celebrate his 40th birthday in a few months and no longer seems so far from retirement. Questioned in recent hours about this choice by Craig Melvin of TODAY , the King revealed his thought process:
LeBron James: I think it was just a matter of timing. Timing is everything and I feel like at this point in my career I still have a lot to give and Team USA has given me a lot, so I feel like this is a great opportunity for me to give back.
A great opportunity, for sure, but will it remain the last one available to him?
For Kevin Durant, this is clearly not yet a guarantee. Indeed, in a statement that logically caused a big stir on social networks, the Slim Reaper recently declared that the trio he forms with LeBron and Steph Curry could reform during the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles.
A crazy hypothesis that the Lakers leader quickly dismissed out of hand:
LeBron James: No, I won’t be there. On the contrary, I’m going to get the hell out of this city when the Olympics come to Los Angeles!
(Laughs) Is that clear? I’m going to live there all year, but I won’t be there in the summer of 2028. Count on me to get the hell out of there!
Nothing more logical for the one who will be 43 years old in 2028. That said, this statement does not prevent some fans from remaining hopeful:
Why is he saying that again? It’s so far away. He still has 4 years to decide
While Kevin Durant would like to compete in the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles with Stephen Curry and LeBron James, the latter apparently has no intention of answering the call. It remains to be seen whether his crazy longevity will ultimately lead him to change his mind on the subject.
