Victor Wembanyama and Steve Kerr
Spurs (DR) / Warriors (DR)

The Americans may arrive in Paris with a dream team for the Olympic Games, but the gold medal is not assured. Steve Kerr knows it, other nations will want to shine, including France, and he has spoken on the subject.

Once considered one of the best coaches in NBA history, Steve Kerr’s image is seriously starting to deteriorate.

If he played a major role in creating a dynasty at the Warriors, notably by developing a unique system around Stephen Curry , his responsibility is at least as great in the recent fall.

Fans will not say the opposite, Kerr’s loyalty to certain executives has sometimes gotten in the way of the development of young people.

Moses Moody, for example, unblocked numerous situations coming off the bench, and yet, in hot moments, it was always Klay Thompson who was on the field despite a caricatured game and fluctuating address.

Steve Kerr recognizes France’s talent

However, he will have the opportunity to make up for it this summer in Paris by coming out of the Olympic Games in line with the talent present in the squad.

It will take a perfect system to overcome increasingly strong nations, and in particular France, who will want to shine at home. The coach spoke on this subject in journalist Jim Rome’s show:

I think that since 1992 and the Dream Team, this selection is perhaps the most rewarded in history.

The difference, and the reason the ’92 team is in the Hall of Fame, is because they changed the sport.

They globalized basketball. The coach didn’t even need to take a single timeout during the tournament. There really wasn’t any competition at the time.

What they were able to do was open this page in history where basketball is played all over the world.

Now there are selections that are capable of beating us. Our players know it.

There are groups like Germany, like France, Serbia, which produce NBA players every year. Different time, different era, but I know my players are impatient.

Steve Kerr knows it, the French team, with its host of NBA players, will have the talent to bring down Team USA if its players are not 100%.

He will therefore have to find a way to motivate them and make them understand that the road to the gold medal will not be easy.

Losing with such a team would definitely damage his reputation.

Steve Kerr will be at the head of a great Team USA this summer, with the sole objective of winning the gold medal. But he is well aware that other nations will have this goal in mind, and in particular the French team of Vincent Collet.
