The season is not yet completely over, but the Lakers have taken the lead in their search for a coach.

However, a former player of the franchise and ex-teammate of LeBron James came to put a spoke in their wheels in this matter.

By being eliminated in the first round of the playoffs, observers and managers alike agreed that it was a failure on the part of the Lakers.

Designated as the main cause of this disillusionment by these same people, Darvin Ham had to pay the price by being dismissed from his coaching duties.

The Purple & Gold found themselves in fact looking for a replacement for this position.

While JJ Redick was strongly anticipated to be hired in the days to come, the file took a new turn with the increasingly concrete discussions concerning Dan Hurley.

Elected NCAA Coach of the Year this season, the latter has visibly won over the members of the Californian organization.

However, all this seems like a trap according to LeBron James ‘ former teammate , JR Smith.

LeBron’s Lakers betrayed by JR Smith?

Do not get caught !

JR Smith was part of the Lakers squad which won the championship title in 2020. It is on this beautiful page that the former star rear bowed out.

But before starting his career in the league, he had already been coached by Dan Hurley between 2002 and 2004, at St. Benedict’s Prep high school in Newark, New Jersey. Swish therefore knows the Connecticut coach particularly well.

Would the tactician not be the right person for the Los Angeles franchise? The reason why the retiree sent this message is still unknown.

What we do know, however, is that LA management met with Hurley this Friday.

Their desire to sign the double NCAA champion is beyond doubt according to Adrian Wojnarowski. That said, not sure that Smith’s intervention will please LeBron & co.

While the Lakers seem inclined to recruit Dan Hurley as their new coach, JR Smith advised the latter not to accept this offer. Should we consider this a betrayal of his friend LeBron James and his former franchise?
