Jack McCaffery, the younger brother of Caitlin Clark’s boyfriend Connor McCaffery, was part of a live stream including Iowa Hawkeyes player Jada Gyamfi, where McCaffery made comments about Brittney Griner.

McCaffery brought up Griner’s gender identity and her prisoner swap history with Russia. McCaffery referenced Griner’s preference to be “called pops” before referencing the prisoner exchange with Russian arms dealer Viktor Bout to end her Russian detainment.

Gyamfi kept the livestream going despite the outrage of fans in the comment section. See the clip below:

Brittney Griner, who is set to represent Team USA in the 2024 Paris Olympics, welcomed her first child with her wife, Cherelle Griner, last week ahead of the WNBA All-Star game. In an interview before the child’s birth, Griner corrected the host, saying that she preferred to be called “pops” by the child, who was named Bash.

It was a rough two years for Brittney Griner as she was arrested in 2022 for drug possession in Russia. She was caught with, and admitted to using, cannabis oils during her time playing in Russia, and was detained for 10 months before the two governments arranged a prisoner swap.

She has since resumed her WNBA career with the Phoenix Mercury, making it to the last All-Star games. Last week, Griner’s Team USA lost to Caitlin Clark’s Team WNBA by a score of 117-109.

Caitlin Clark appreciative of Brittney Griner’s praise

Indiana Fever rookie Caitlin Clark is fond of Brittney Griner and expressed her appreciation to the veteran following their win versus Phoenix Mercury ahead of the All-Star game. Griner previously said that she was impressed with Clark’s transition from college to the pros to which the Fever rookie showed gratitude.

“Super kind,” Clark said to reporters. “She said the same thing to me when we played Phoenix earlier this year. It’s just something you appreciate. As long as I’ve watched this league, she’s been a staple of this league and been absolutely tremendous. So, for her to say that is not something you take lightly and just something I really appreciate.”

Griner has been one of the most respected players in the WNBA, winning a championship in 2014 and becoming an All-Star 10 times in her career. She has also led the league in blocks eight times, making her one of the best bigs in the league for more than a decade.
