Mike Tyson’s trainer took a bit of a battering as the former heavyweight champion unloaded on the pads ahead of his fight with YouTube star-turned-boxer Jake Paul.

The 57-year-old will take on Paul at the AT&T Stadium on July 20 despite concerns raised over his health and fitness. In recent years, Iron Mike has been seen using a support cane, as well as a wheelchair, but he appears to be in better shape in recently released training footage.

He was, however, accused of faking the clip by American promoter Chael Sonnen, who urged Tyson to splash himself with water to make it look like sweat. “In the future, if you’re ever going to spend five seconds hitting mitts, as a way of making the audience believe you’re doing a training session, make sure you splash water on your face and T-shirt first,” Sonnen said on X.

Tyson then responded with more footage of himself viciously unloading on a coach holding pads, with the man in the clip’s eyes telling the whole story. “Mike’s trainer saw his life flash before his eyes,” one viewer said. “I truly have sympathy for this man,” another added.

Regardless, Tyson is determined to step inside the squared circle against Paul, who is just over 30 years his junior. “I’m very much looking forward to stepping into the ring with Jake Paul,” Tyson said in a statement.

“He’s grown significantly as a boxer over the years, so it will be a lot of fun to see what the will and ambition of a ‘kid’ can do with the experience and aptitude of a GOAT (Greatest Of All Time). It’s a full circle moment that will be beyond thrilling to watch, as I started him on his boxing journey on the undercard of my fight with Roy Jones and now I plan to finish him.”

Paul has forged a 9-1 professional boxing career with his only defeat coming to Tommy Fury in Saudi Arabia. “It’s crazy to think that in my second pro fight, I went viral for knocking out Nate Robinson on Mike Tyson’s undercard,” Paul added. “Now, less than four years later, I’m stepping up to face Tyson myself to see if I have what it takes to beat one of boxing’s most notorious fighters and biggest icons.”

The rules surrounding the summer’s fight have been a much-debated topic. Paul has dismissed the leaked stipulations that claimed the fighters would wear headgear.

“Just a quick message to the people who are complaining about the rules of me versus Mike Tyson,” he began. “Some TikToker user made a video making up all these fake rules like me and Logan tag teaming him, us wearing headgear, all of this bull****.

“If you believe that you’re a f*****g idiot and you shouldn’t be allowed to vote, you shouldn’t be allowed to drive on the streets and endanger other people. I feel for any dumb*** who believes that and I would never let my fans down in a fight like this and wearing headgear? Come on now people.”
