UFC interim heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall does not want to see Mike Tyson “getting punched in the head” by Jake Paul.

Boxing legend Tyson will take on YouTuber-turned-fighter Paul in the ring on July 20. There’ll be a staggering 31-year age gap between ‘Iron Mike’ and Paul when he laces up his gloves at the AT&T Stadium in Texas.

Tyson earned the nickname the Baddest Man on the Planet during his incredible rise in the 1980s – but many across the world of combat sport have voiced their distress over him taking on a far younger opponent at his age.

Salford-born Aspinall, who claimed the UFC interim heavyweight belt in a first round knockout against Sergei Pavlovich last November, is one of those concerned for Tyson’s welfare. And he went one step further by saying he has no interest in watching the highly-anticipated bout.

Aspinall told OLBG: “Training for a fight gives you so much discipline and health and confidence and all that good stuff, so if Mike Tyson’s training that’s fantastic because he obviously is getting up there in age, but he still looks great.

Are you concerned about Mike Tyson’s welfare?

But UFC champion Tom Aspinall is worried

“But as far as getting punched in the head after all the getting punched in the head he’s done over the years, I’d rather not see it I guess. It’s meant to be entertainment I guess, but it’s not my scene.

“Some people love tennis, that’s everything to them. For me, very little interest in tennis and it’s the same for this. I’m sure people will watch but I don’t enjoy this stuff.”

Paul is over 30 years younger than Tyson

UFC head honcho Dana White has also criticised Paul for choosing to fight Tyson. “Jake Paul did fight a kid his age and he lost,” White told Henry Cejudo and Kamaru Usman on the Pound 4 Pound podcast, referring to his 2023 defeat to Love Island winner Tommy Fury.

“I just saw this thing on the internet yesterday and I reposted it where it says if he beats Mike Tyson he’s going to fight with Clint Eastwood next, Clint Eastwood is 93 years old.”
