BOXING fans have bizarrely claimed they have proof time travel does exist in an old clip of Mike Tyson fighting Peter McNeeley.

The clip from 1995 shows the pair squaring up to each other – but it is a member of the audience that caught their eye.

One spectator in the crowd appears to be snapping photos on what looks like an iPhone – 12 years before the device debuted.

Stunned social media users say the handheld item looks suspiciously like a camera phone, even though the first one was not released until 2000.

One user commented: “1995 fight between Mike Tyson and Peter McNeeley in Las Vegas.

“Someone in the crowd is seen taking a picture from what appears to (be) a smart phone device, or a device way ahead of the 90s. Aliens!”

Another added: “I dunno if it’s a time traveller or not, but no one can explain what camera it is; a QV-100 doesn’t have a silver bit on the right, and this camera doesn’t seem to have a black line under the lens.”

A third replied: “It definitely looks like a smartphone, this is creepy.”

But others squashed any rumours of time travel and pointed out how it couldn’t be a smart phone.

One said: “His face isn’t lit up from the display. Even the people around him don’t care.

“If someone was holding a screen of anything during that time, everyone would be staring at it.”

A second added: “There were small, digital cameras back then that look similar to what this man is holding. They also video recorded. Why is it just assumed this could be a smart phone?”

Although camera phones didn’t hit the market until five years later, a number of handheld cameras were available.

These included the Casio QV-10A, the Casio QV-100 and the Logitech Fotoman which looked similar to the device held by the spectator.

It comes after conspiracy nuts were convinced an 85-year-old mural called Mr Pynchon And The Settling Of Springfield proved time travel exists.

The 1937 painting by Umberto Romano of a scene from 17th century colonial America shows the English colonist and fur trader William Pynchon.

He is depicted trading with the native Americans who lived in the area.

If you look closely, you can spot one of the men staring at a mystery rectangular object in his right hand.
