Tyson’s controversial fight against social media star Paul has been pushed back until November and Trump has outlined why the heavyweight legend will struggle

 

Donald Trump thinks Mike Tyson’s age will catch up with him when he fights Jake Paul.

Heavyweight legend Tyson was scheduled to fight influencer-turned-boxer Paul on July 20 but the controversial bout has been pushed back to November 15. Tyson suffered a stomach ulcer flare-up whilst onboard a flight last month and was forced to pull out of the fight because of the health scare.

Paul wants to stay busy before his rescheduled fight against Tyson and is expected to fight on July 20 against former UFC star Mike Perry. Former US president Trump is good friends with ‘Iron Mike’ but isn’t confident the 57-year-old will be able to beat Paul in their rescheduled fight because of their age difference.

“Look Mike was fantastic but, you know, Mike’s a little older now and you guys can fight. You can legitimately fight. It’s so amazing because I always thought like a UFC guy or a top contender would be able to win even at 75 years old, but it doesn’t work that way. The clock is still the clock,” Trump told Paul’s brother Logan on his Impaulsive podcast.

Trump once invested $11million to promote Tyson’s world title fight against Michael Spinks at the Atlantic City Convention Hall in New Jersey, which is adjacent to his Trump Plaza. ‘Iron Mike’ has spoken highly of Trump throughout his boxing career as he told The Pivot Podcast last year: “He is just some guy like us who become president.”

 

“I always remember him from being a good guy, paying me a lot of money. Help me by giving my friends room for free and giving them food. Every time you talk about Trump people have got to click you… I’ll cancel you mother******.” Tyson hasn’t competed in a professional fight since retiring on his stool against journeyman Kevin McBride almost two decades ago.

 

There will be over a 31-year gap between Tyson and Paul on fight night, the largest age differential in professional boxing history. Tyson will have to pass brain and heart scans to be eligible to fight and the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation is closely monitoring him after his recent health scare.
