Sugar Ray Leonard holds a professional record of 40 fights and 36 wins with 25 KO’s

68-year-old former boxer shows he's in better shape than Mike Tyson but fans call for him not to fight Jake Paul

Sugar Ray Leonard remains regarded as one of the finest boxers of all-time some 47 years after his debut and he’s flexing his muscles once again as he looks in good shape, leading to fans to tell him not to copy Iron Mike Tyson‘s decision to fight Jake Paul.

And he might still have it too, despite retiring 27 years ago, as a recent workout video showed some slick moves and electric speed with jabs, crosses and uppercuts, despite the five-weight champion being 68 years old.

Leonard, an Olympic gold medalist, captioned the video, uploaded to Instagram, “Starting off the week in beast mode!!”

So, could he be the latest boxer to attempt a professional comeback after Iron Mike Tyson roared back to the scene with the announcement of his November 15 (initially July 20) fight against Jake Paul?

Whilst fans are no doubt happy to see the all-timer’s body and heart are in good shape, they were very, very clear that they didn’t want him to try to copy what Tyson did. After all, fighting is a young man’s game and Leonard is almost 70 now.

One user said, “Stay out the ring; dont b like Mike Tyson.

A second added, “Please stay outside the ring, Champ; you already have legacy of boxing and people champ around the world.”

Fans, of course, were happy to see the ex-professional keeping fit all those years after his wars against Robert DuranMarvin Hagler and Tommy Hearns, especially after his health issues battling diabetes which he looks to combat via his Sugar Ray Leonard Foundation.

One fan commented, “Nice to see Leonard up in age working out. Thanks for all the great fights. When I was in the hospital dying from COVID I watched all of Leonard‘s fights.”

A second noted, “Always got the moves and will never lose them , love it @sugarrayleonard it’s inspiring and @realbendoughty SRL is even-shoe shining the battle ropes :).”

And a third concluded, “He was always differentiated, thick shell warrior.”

Mike Tyson vs Jake Paul details

Tyson and Paul will step into the ring on November 15 now, after their original July 20 date was postponed because of an ulcer flare up for the 58-year-old former-undisputed champion of the world.

So it will be winter when they do battle at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas in a fight that will be streamed exclusively by Netflix for the first time ever.
