Boxing legend Tyson was forced to pull out of his fight against Paul because of a health issue and they have been told their fight should be cancelled for good
Mike Tyson and Jake Paul have been told their controversial fight should be permanently cancelled after being postponed.
Boxing legend Tyson was scheduled to fight influencer-turned-boxer Paul on July 20 at the Dallas Cowboys stadium in Texas. The professionally sanctioned bout has now been delayed until further notice after Tyson was declared medically unfit to compete after suffering an ulcer flare up while onboard a flight last week.
‘Iron Mike’ has since called for his rescheduled fight against Paul to take place between October and December, but UFC legend Demetrious Johnson has explained why he wants the bout to be cancelled for good. “Mike Tyson is 58 years old. I don’t know what his health history is,” Johnson said on The MMA Hour.
“I think the biggest thing is you have someone who is 58 years old trying to push his body to the absolute limit, moving and I don’t know if he’s sparring or anything like that. I love Jake Paul and I want to see Jake Paul fight, but there are so many f***ing boxers out there that he can fight and pad his record with.
“I understand Mike Tyson is a big name and that’s why they want to do it but I don’t think they should revisit it. There are guys that are younger than Mike Tyson but older than him that he can beat who have a big name.” Tyson hasn’t competed in a professional fight since retiring on his stool almost two decades ago against journeyman Kevin McBride.
“I just think him fighting Mike Tyson? The guy is 58 and I don’t want to see Mike get hurt, right? That’s just my personal opinion, it’s nothing against Jake or Mike. There’s just reason for him fighting a 58-year-old. I’m sure Eddie Hearn could find someone for Jake Paul to fight. This is the stupidest f***ing thing that’s happening right now,” Johnson added.
Boxing legend Roy Jones Jr and Amir Khan have both put themselves forward as potential replacement opponents for Tyson, who will have to pass brain and heart scans to be eligible to fight Paul. Tyson has insisted that he is in good health despite suffering the ulcer flare up and plans to start training again in a few weeks.
