For the first time in their long and glorious careers, LeBron James and Stephen Curry played together in a competitive setting.
The attention was obviously on them throughout the game against Canada, and they clearly enjoyed themselves, even if the connection is not yet perfect.
It only took 4 days of preparation and a friendly match for Team USA to remind their competitors that they are the masters of world basketball.
Yes, the NBA is opening its borders more and more. Yes, the best players in the league are now foreign.
Yes, some teams like France have managed to reduce the gap with the Americans… But when it is focused, this team remains above the rest.
This Wednesday, after only a few hours of training and therefore with few automatisms, Steve Kerr’s men showed part of their potential by crushing their neighbor from Canada.
Not everything was perfect, including some largely avoidable turnovers, which did not prevent LeBron James & Co. from winning 86-72 thanks to the contribution of the bench.
LeBron James and Steph Curry happy with Team USA
Moreover, for the first time in their careers, the King and Stephen Curry played on the same team, which did not fail to excite fans of the two icons.
Some are even starting to dream of an association in the NBA … Speaking to ESPN , the two interested parties gave their feelings on this great baptism of fire.
LeBron James: We’re just two guys who love to play basketball. We try to share the ball. I missed him in the first half on an open 3-pointer, I threw the ball into the stands. He was able to throw me the ball on the alley-oop. It’s fun, we play at a high level, but more importantly, we play the right way.
Stephen Curry: We just want to win the gold medal, no matter what it takes to get there.
No matter how many points you score or how long you play, everyone has to be willing to do what we ask of them.
From day one, the staff has been talking to us about bringing intensity. Like LeBron says, we’re going to be able to work on our offense over time, but if we defend like that, we’re going to be fine no matter what.
LeBron James, Stephen Curry, and more generally the entire team, had a hard time getting going offensively with a few balls sent into the stands.
They still had a lot of fun on the court, and they know that if they defend hard, this Team USA will be unfazed on the road to the gold medal.
LeBron James and Stephen Curry aren’t yet in the dark, but when they do, they’ll be terrifying. But they haven’t forgotten the main goal: to walk over the competition and win gold.
