Ballymena actor Liam Neeson has said he won’t be making anymore action movies – citing his age as the reason.

The Taken star enjoyed a resurge of success as an action star when the franchise kicked off in 2008, prompting his appearance in a number of sequels as well as other thrillers including Non-Stop, Run All Night and The A Team.

But speaking at the Toronto International Film Festival this week, the actor said he would now be focusing on more serious roles – regardless of the lucrative salary he is offered.

“They’re still throwing serious money at me to do that stuff,” he said.

“I’m like: ‘Guy’s I’m sixty-f***ing-five.’ Audiences are eventually going to go: ‘Come on.'”

The star added that his rebirth as an action star in recent years was “all a pure accident”.

However Liam does have two more action genre movies still to be released – including Hard Powder, in which he plays a snowplow driver seeking revenge against the drug dealers he thinks killed his son.

The film will be released in 2018, as will The Commuter where the actor stars as a businessman caught up in a criminal conspiracy during his daily commute home.

Liam appeared at the Toronto International Film Festival to talk about his latest role in Watergate drama, Mark Felt: The Man Who Brought Down The White House.

He plays the character nicknamed Deep Throat –  an FBI official and Washington Post’s source in the 1972 political scandal.
