Dak Prescott missed the Dallas Cowboys’ preseason opener against the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday, having also been absent from training camp due to soreness in his right ankle.
The quarterback is now back with the Cowboys and has told reporters he’s ready to train again, insisting there’s no longer a problem with the joint.
“One thousand percent,” he told ESPN’s Todd Archer about his ankle on Sunday.
Prescott is now expected to be back in practice on Tuesday and will participate in training camp for the first time since 2021.
However, he is not likely to play again until the regular season.
The quarterback has been dealing with ankle problems for a while now. He initially sustained a dislocation and compound fracture that sent him under the knife in 2020. The 31-year-old returned to the team in 2021 but missed five regular-season games.
Dak Prescott Has Left Many Fans Confused This Offseason
Prescott had a remarkable 2023 campaign for Dallas, finishing second in MVP voting behind Lamar Jackson, but he ended up disappointing in the playoffs again as the Cowboys would shockingly lose to the Green Bay Packers in the Wild Card Round.
The former Mississippi State quarterback dealt with a mild foot sprain at some point, as evidenced by images of him in a walking boot while on vacation in Mexico. He posted photos of himself walking without the boot sometime thereafter, explaining that it was precautionary.
Still, he missed practice when the time came, again fueling the injury rumors. The Cowboys also claimed his absence was precautionary, and he’s now claiming he’s ready to return to practice.
Dak Prescott is also thought to be in line for a new contract that would reset the NFL’s quarterback market. But, like his fitness, the outcome also remains to be seen.
