Another lawsuit from the same period alleges that Combs drugged, sexually assaulted, and videotaped a 19-year-old woman after a date.

Despite these disturbing allegations, Combs continued to ascend in his career, founding his own label, Bad Boy Records, in 1993. The label became synonymous with the rise of hip-hop and launched the careers of numerous artists. However, legal issues continued to follow Combs, including a 1996 conviction for criminal mischief for threatening a photographer with a gun.Combs also gained notoriety for his annual Hampton’s all-white parties, which attracted a who’s who of the entertainment industry. On April 16th, 1999, a significant turning point occurred when Combs faced arrest and charges of second-degree assault and criminal mischief for allegedly assaulting record executive Steve Stout. Stout claimed that Combs and two bodyguards attacked him with fists, a telephone, a champagne bottle, and a chair. In a public apology, Combs reportedly paid Stout $500,000, leading to the dismissal of charges, with Combs pleading guilty to harassment and receiving anger management classes.

In December 27th, 1999, Combs, accompanied by then-girlfriend Jennifer Lopez and rapper Shine, faced arrest in connection to a shooting at Club New York. While Combs was charged with weapons violations, he was eventually acquitted.

March 2000 marked the debut of the reality TV competition “Making the Band” on ABC, later airing on MTV. The show, spanning 12 seasons, featured Combs searching for new talent to form bands like Day26 and Danity Kane, both signed to Bad Boy Records.

In March 26th, 2001, local TV host Roger Mills filed a lawsuit against Combs, accusing him of assault, false imprisonment, destruction of property, intentional infliction of emotional distress, and civil conspiracy. The lawsuit stemmed from an incident where Combs’ entourage allegedly roughed up Mills and destroyed his camera.
