The Toronto Maple Leafs are still open to moving forward Mitch Marner, and now it’s reported that the Carolina Hurricanes are pushing a major blockbuster.

While most of the chaos of this summer has died down, speculation continues to swirl around the futures of Mitch Marner in Toronto and Martin Necas of the Carolina Hurricanes. Both could potentially be traded before the 2024/25 season begins, and now, speculation has revealed that Carolina have levied a major offer for Marner.

Im told the #Canes have sent a legit offer for #LeafsForever Marner that includes Necas as well as 3rd and 4th rd picks.

CAR actively talking with Necas, despite his displeasure with team and high asking price of 9M. #UtahHC, #Sabres, #FlyTogether, #NHLJets all in contact.

Reportedly Necas is asking for upwards of $9 million AAV on a long-term deal, but given his overall lack of production compared to expectations, it makes sense that they don’t want to give him the deal. With John Tavares potentially leaving as a free agent in the summer of 2025, a trade to find a young center could be the move that the future of the Maple Leafs need, but with Marner’s No-Trade Clause, he controls his fate still.

As for Marner, the same report has revealed that he’s looking for $13 million annually on his next deal, and given the way he’s performed in the playoffs, it may be this asking price that forces Brad Treliving’s hand.

#LeafsForever and Marner extension numbers at this time are pretty huge, looking like 8x13M is the asking price form the Marner camp. At this time Leafs are not happy with that.

#UtahHC #NHLJets #Canes and #Sabres all linked to Marner.

It’s unclear how far discussions have gone between these two parties, but with both looking to move their key players, a deal could certainly be made.
