Becky Hammon Shares Candid Thoughts on Clark-Reese Rivalry

Las Vegas Aces coach Becky Hammon weighed in on the Caitlin Clark-Angel Reese rivalry after last night’s victory over the Chicago Sky.

The Las Vegas Aces are one of the top teams in the WNBA. Head coach Becky Hammon has led the team to two WNBA Championships in a row. Hammon was recently asked to weight in on the ongoing discourse related to the Caitlin Clark-Angel Reese rivalry. Coach Hammon did not pull any punches when discussing the rivalry.

Here’s what Hammon had to say during yesterday’s press conference.

“[Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese] are really super skilled,” Hammon said. “They are fun to watch. And they jaw at each other… Nobody talks more crap than Caitlin too… Let em’ go. They’re big girls.”

Hammon is right to point out that players jawing with each other is nothing new. Caitlin Clark has a large fanbase who followed her from college basketball to the WNBA. Those fans don’t want to see Clark treated unfairly, but those same fans are less likely to care if Clark is jawing with other players herself. It makes sense that Hammon has the opinion that all WBNA players are adults who can handle themselves on the court.

The interview did not necessarily come out of nowhere. Las Vegas traveled to Chicago yesterday to play the Sky, so it is natural to receive some questions related to Angel Reese.

The Aces defeated the Sky 95-83, extending their winning streak to three games. Las Vegas was led in scoring by the usual suspects — A’ja Wilson, Jackie Young, and Kelsey Plum accounted for 74 of the team’s points.

Las Vegas led by three halfway through the first quarter, but Chicago countered with a 12-3 run. The Sky ended the first quarter with a four point lead. However, the Aces went on a 16-2 run a few minutes into the second quarter and never relinquished control of the game.

A’ja Wilson took to social media on Tuesday to express her frustration with Just Women’s Sports. The media outlet criticized the logo for Wilson’s upcoming signature shoe line with Nike.

Wilson’s new emblem was discussed on Just Women’s Sports show Expert Adjacent. During the segment, multiple commentators made rude remarks about the new symbol, which will be featured on Wilson’s Nike shoe line “A’One.”

“I get (people) are gonna have their opinions and think pieces (and) that’s all fine and dandy,” Wilson tweeted in response. “… But this is lame … coming from a site (that’s supposed) to be for ‘us’ … the only ‘Ass’ I see are the (people) apart of this segment.”

She also took the opportunity to express gratittude to her fans, reminding everyone that many people are excited about the shoe line.

“I do wanna say thank you to all the ppl that support me and my squad fr ! Doesn’t go unnoticed, yall are top tier real ones fr,” Wilson said. “The A collection is about to be so much fun and a great collection for everyone.”

Wilson’s A’One shoes are set to debut with Nike in 2025.
