There has been a ton of speculation surrounding a Leon Draisaitl contract extension with the Edmonton Oilers, and it appears it will get done in a few weeks.

Edmonton Oilers fans and players are still hurting from how close they came to capturing the Stanley Cup when they lost in game 7 to the Florida Panthers a few weeks ago. Following this heartbreak, there have already been some changes to the team’s roster, but there’s one player that management and the fans likely don’t want to lose, and that’s Leon Draisaitl.

Draisaitl has one year left on his contract with the Oilers before he becomes an unrestricted free agent (UFA), and he is ready to sign one of the most lucrative contracts in NHL and franchise history.

Tyler Yaremchuk is a podcaster on Oilers Nation, and he shared the idea that both sides trust each other and that there is no immediate rush to sign and make the announcement, however it does appear that it will be getting done momentarily.

Oilersnation podcaster Tyler Yaremchuk believes there’s mutual trust, and a contract should be finalized soon.

«And it’ll be, you know, not easy to do, but you can kind of see the path towards how they’re going to get a deal done. So, yeah, I have no problem with them waiting. I mean, announce it on August 31st. Wait till September, when he’s back in town for camp»

Yaremchuk really explained the situation in detail regarding Draisaitl and the Oilers, as can be seen below.

“I think that also, you know, probably shows there’s a pretty high level of trust between the two sides. Like if there was concern from the Oilers’ side, that Draisaitl was gonna, you know, back out or change his mind or something was gonna go wrong, then,” he said.

“Yeah, maybe they would be under some pressure to, kay, on the heels of getting that close to a Stanley Cup. Just get it done as fast as you can. But I think these two sides probably know they’re going to find common ground at some point,” Yaremchuk continued.

“Like to me, this is going to get done before the beginning of the season, and there’s really no reason to rush and no reason for fans to be concerned that this thing isn’t done yet,” Yaremchuk added.

Oilers fans have suffered enough recently, and based off of Yaremchuk’s comments, it finally seems like some good news is headed the fan-base’s way, with a deal expected within the next month or so.

Leon Draisaitl had a fantastic year for the Edmonton Oilers last season, having played in every game except one, and scoring 41 goals and 106 points. He was an absolute beast in the playoffs, notching 10 goals and getting 21 assists in 25 games.
