UFC 303: Three Options for Headliner If Conor McGregor vs. Michael Chandler Falls Off

On Monday, the abrupt cancellation of the UFC 303 news conference in Dublin, Ireland, raised concerns regarding Conor McGregor’s prospects of facing Michael Chandler on June 29.

Although the news conference was officially “postponed,” the timing raised concerns, as UFC CEO Dana White had stated at UFC 302 just hours prior that he was ready to travel to Ireland and meet up with The Mac.

After learning of the press conference’s cancellation, McGregor issued a somewhat cryptic statement in which he apologized and stated that the event was “cancelled due to a series of obstacles outside of our control.”

Given that UFC 303 is in less than four weeks, what is happening now? Let’s look at some of the possibilities. It is not new for Conor McGregor to make publicity moves before his UFC fights; it might be one of his strategies to gain more attention from UFC fans toward the event. Or The Notorious might have injured himself while training for his fight against Chandler.

But considering the worst-case scenario, suppose the fight between Conor McGregor and Michael Chandler falls off for UFC 303. The event organizers may consider other potential options for the headline fight.

3 Possible Opponents For UFC 303

This is the most accessible and most likely combat to fill the slot. Given that Max Holloway was training to fight at 170 in a matter of weeks.

Chandler may find dropping to 155 to take on the fighter challenging.

If Conor McGregor opts out of the fight at UFC 303, the organization should find a fighter for Michael Chandler, who is already on the card. Rather than having Michael Chandler cut down weight from 170 to 155 pounds, a welterweight opponent would be the best option for him.

If so, the promotion could fix Michael Chandler with Michael ‘Venom’ Page, who is set to fight Ian Machado Garry.

Jon Jones vs. Stipe Miocic

If there is any chance that this combat will occur, it must happen quickly. Although it is doubtful that it would work out at short notice, Jones might fall for the fantasy if you sufficiently lubricate him and make him feel like a cardinal rescuer.

Though the UFC has not commented on the fight’s cancellation, it has been postponed until further notice. We have just laid down some possible fights that might still be able to keep up with the hype of UFC 303.
