Richie Sambora Tells Jon Bon Jovi: ‘Stop Singing’

Richie Sambora told Premier Guitar that Jon Bon Jovi needs a voice break after surgery. Sambora underlined the need of voice relaxation after years of traveling and recording: In particular, he needed a break and is now saying, ‘Yeah, I should’ve taken a break.’ He should.” Recent vocal difficulties were caused by Bon Jovi’s decreasing chords. The guitarist said:

“I told my singing teacher, and it grows back. However, you must quit singing and talking for six months and practice whatever voodoo you can, such as Reiki and new age medicine and herbs. He chose plastic, and I thought, “Oh, dude, that must suck.” How’re you?

The guitarist suggests the singer emulate Steven Tyler.

Sambora compared Jon Bon Jovi to Steven Tyler. Tyler ‘mangled’ his voice chords at a 2024 performance after injuring his larynx in 2023. The ex-Bon Jovi guitarist spoke about meeting the singer at a Lahaina fundraiser: “We raised a lot of money, and Steven came. Tyler and I have a long history. We played on one other’s recordings and are longtime friends. He made a throat action that was like [imitates the sound]. Blood came out of his lips after all night. He had to stop.”

He added: He arrived looking good, so I remarked, ‘Don’t you dare.’ He wants to go up there and do it, but he’s taking care of himself and didn’t buy plastic. So that’s a wonderful idea since it’ll grow back.”

He Says Bon Jovi’s Vocals Are ‘Clearly Not’ Great
Jon Bon Jovi said he was recovering 19 months after surgery. He recorded his band’s new album, ‘Forever,’ but said it was too early to speak about a tour. Fans have criticized the frontman’s vocals in recent months. In early May, Sambora said his ex-bandmate’s voice was ‘unfortunately plainly not’ good. However, the guitarist stated he will rejoin Bon Jovi after recovering.
