Following the news, viewers begged showrunners to keep one of their favorite actors on.

On the June 24 episode, viewers said goodbye to fan favorite Harris Michaels, played by Steve Burton.
During his final scene on Days of Our Lives, Harris said farewell to his ex-Ava, played by Tamara Braun.
Tamara spoke with Soap Opera Digest to reflect on Steve’s departure.
“Of course, I was sad to see Steve leave,” she said.
“I enjoyed working with him again and building this relationship between Ava and Harris.
“It seemed the powers-that-be were invested in the characters, so it was a bummer that he left because the couple couldn’t continue.”
Similar to Tamara’s reaction, fans took to social media to share their thoughts on Steve’s exit from the show.
“Gonna miss Steve Burton. I only know him from Days, but I loved his character,” said one Facebook user.
“Harris needs to stay!” wrote another.
Steve’s departure comes after the soap star signed a one-year contract to return on Days of Our Lives.

In March 2024, Steve reprised his role as Jason Morgan on General Hospital.
In speaking with Soap Opera Digest, Tamara said his role on General Hospital is where he’s meant to be at this time.
“Steve needed to go,” she said. “He’s back at GH where he wants to be and that’s important for him.
“I want people to be happy. Life is short.”
Despite Steve’s exit, fans believe there’s hope he’ll return as he wasn’t killed off the show.
“Well, I’m glad that Harris is just leaving town, and they didn’t kill him off, which means there could be a chance for him coming back one day, so who knows,” said one fan.
“Saddening because he’s the best part of Days and the bright side is they let the door open for him to come back any time as he likes, so there’s a chance he’ll consider coming back,” another shared.
FAREWELL LUCAS
In addition to Steve’s departure, Days of Our Live fans will again say farewell to Bryan Dattilo’s character, Lucas Horton.
During his final episode on June 25, Lucas will say an emotional goodbye to his mom, Kate, as he embarks on a flight to New Zealand.
While fans are devastated to see Bryan’s character go, it isn’t the first time he’s exited the show.
He first appeared on the show in 1993 and went on until 2001. Bryan reprised his role the following year until 2010.
He returned to the series during its reboot in 2012 and has since been on and off the show.
