Angel Reese Silences Critics with Historic WNBA Ambition!

Former NFL quarterback Robert Griffin III took aim at Angel Reese’s “haters” as she tied a WNBA record.

Angel Reese has a WNBA record in her sights, and former NFL quarterback turned commentator has a strong message for her “haters.”

After the Chicago Sky forward tied an all-time mark with her ninth straight double-double, Robert Griffin III took to social media to call out those who still harbor ill will toward the rookie. Griffin said they could take a break from the hating to appreciate her accomplishment.

“Angel Reese has had 9 straight double-doubles. That ties a WNBA record held by Candace Parker,” Griffin wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.

“I mean even her haters gotta put down that haterade and recognize how impressive this is.”

Reese recorded 18 points and 11 rebounds in a 95-83 home loss to the Las Vegas Aces on June 27, continuing a double-double streak that started on June 4.

Reese and fellow rookie Caitlin Clark have become polarizing figures in the WNBA, attracting criticism for their rivalry that dates back to college and even taking some shots from fellow players.

This week, legendary UConn women’s basketball coach Geno Auriemma called out players who have a problem with the attention that Clark and Reese are attracting. In a message that echoed Griffin’s sentiments, Auriemma said any players taking issue with the pair should instead learn to appreciate them.

“[Caitlin Clark] and Angel Reese are not the two best players in the WNBA, but they’re the two most talked about players in the WNBA right now,” Auriemma said during a panel discussion at the Aspen Ideas Festival.

“If you’re some of the players, going back to your question, you can moan and groan about why weren’t they talking about me when I was here, well, or you can just appreciate what it is and take advantage of it now.

“But at some point, it’s always going to be about the game. It’s not going to be about all the other stuff off the court and all the other extra-curricular stuff that goes on. At some point, all of them are going to have to be really, really good.”
