Celtics Now Linked To Bronny James Ahead Of 2024 NBA Draft

The big story heading into the 2024 NBA Draft is which team will ultimately select Bronny James.

Typically, college stars who averaged 4.8 points per game on 37 percent shooting don’t cause much of a stir. But Bronny is the exception to the rule.

As the son of Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James, everyone is intrigued by him and who else may join the team if he gets selected.

Although a new team recently leapfrogged the Lakers as the favorite to land both Bronny and LeBron this summer, the world champion Boston Celtics are now also being linked to the situation.

This week Bill Simmons posited a scenario where Bronny ends up in Boston.

“Here’s my case: everybody says this draft sucks. The Celtics are so deep… anyone in this draft isn’t going to play for them,” Simmons said.

“Why not take Bronny and you basically hold him hostage? Because all these other teams want him, right?”

“That doesn’t sound toxic at all,” Chris Ryan responded.

Simmons wouldn’t be deterred, though.

“No, I’m saying for the asset,” Simmons went on. “The Lakers, you want him? Well we took Bronny, give us Max Christie. How bad do you want him? I would say Bronny the asset at 30 as a trade thing is worth more than anyone they could get here.

“This is our ‘f*** you’ moment. This is Ben Affleck saying, ‘I just won for Argo, I’m going to be Batman.’ We have the title won, now we’re taking Bronny James! LeBron beat us in our last four playoff series against him, we’re taking your son!”

The Celtics have the 30th pick in the first round of the 2024 NBA Draft and the 54th pick in the second round. The Lakers, for what it is worth, are picking 55th in the second round. Will Boston ultimately opt to use either one of their picks on Bronny? Time will tell.
