Key Member Of Deion Sanders’ Coaching Staff Shockingly Quits Before The Start Of Colorado Buffaloes’ 2024 Season

The Colorado Buffaloes have been hit with some more negative publicity heading into the 2024 season as former NFL linebacker Trevor Reilly has surprisingly quit the program for an unknown reason.
Reilly had been a special teams coordinator for the Buffs for the last 20 months but has recently departed.
Sports Illustrated confirmed the news of Reilly’s exit late Monday night.
“Colorado Buffaloes football assistant coach Trevor Reilly reportedly resigned before the start of fall camp,” the outlet reports. “Sports Illustrated confirmed with CU’s SID staff that he was no longer with the program.”
SI wasn’t able to reveal the reason for the move, however.
Reilly began coaching as a graduate assistant at Utah in 2018. He was offered an opportunity to become a full-time coach under Sanders at Jackson State in 2021 and rejoined Coach Prime in Boulder last year.
The Former Jets, Patriots, and Dolphins LB was already gone when CU began its fall training camp on July 28, having resigned, with George Helow reportedly taking over as special teams coordinator.
Former Colorado Buffaloes Special Teams Coordinator Seen In Hawaii On Team’s Media Day
The ex-linebacker was pictured in Hawaii on August 9 while the Buffs had their annual media day. It’s understood that he was visiting Dennis Thurman, who coached him while he was with the Jets and worked with him at both JSU and CU.
The development is indeed strange, especially given its timing. Reilly’s remaining with the team through the offseason to suddenly quit just before the start of the new season suggests something went down behind the scenes.
That he left without a formal announcement or any outlets reporting the departure until now is also puzzling.
Sanders should expect some questions on this the next time he faces the media.
