LeBron James recently made headlines by opting out of his $51.4 million contract, signaling his readiness to take a pay cut to facilitate the re-signing of three key Lakers stars.

Before re-signing with the Lakers, LeBron ensured that the team would add more veteran talent to boost their chances of contending for a title.

According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the Lakers star wasted no time in making moves during the free agency period by trying to bring Klay Thompson to Los Angeles.

“LeBron James, I’m told, called Klay Thompson right when free agency opened at 6:00 PM eastern,” Wojnarowski said.

The interest seems to be mutual. NBA insiders suggested that the Los Angeles native is intrigued by the prospect of teaming up with LeBron James on the Lakers.

Back in 2019, Thompson had been linked to the Lakers before. But the Golden State Warriors disrupted it by offering a substantial five-year contract worth $190 million.

Meanwhile, the Lakers are not the only team eyeing Thompson. The Dallas Mavericks and Los Angeles Clippers are also potential destinations for the sharpshooting guard.

However, the possibility of joining forces with LeBron in his hometown might be a strong lure for Thompson.
