Luka Doncic Names Mavs Player Most To Blame For Game 2 Loss

Luka Doncic and the Dallas Mavericks fell in Game 2 of the NBA Finals 105-98. They now find themselves in an 0-2 hole heading back home.

Despite playing hurt, Doncic finished the outing with 32 points, 11 rebounds and 11 assists in 42 minutes of action. He was clearly the best player on the court, for either side, for most of the outing.

After his team’s defeat, Doncic spoke to the media.

In the process, the 25-year-old revealed which Mavs player he felt like deserved the most blame for the team’s loss.

“It didn’t work because we lost,” he said.

“At the end of the day, we’ve got to make some more shots. I think my turnovers and my missed free throws cost us the game. So I’ve got to do way better in those two categories. At the end of the day, we’ve got to make shots.”

While Doncic taking responsibility for the Mavericks’ loss is noble, he definitely isn’t to blame. His teammates let him down – including Kyrie Irving.

Irving finishing Game 2 with 16 points on 7-of-18 shooting. He has been awful in the NBA Finals so far.

To Irving’s credit, he took responsibility afterward as well.

“A lot of shots were hitting the back rim,” he admitted.

“That can piss you off as a competitor, but it’s all part of the game of basketball, and you gotta accept the ups and downs of this. I would say that’s the toughest challenge when you’re in a series. You want to play extremely well, especially when you’re playing in the Finals.

“A little disappointed in myself. Not being able to convert a lot of more of my opportunities that I have in the lane.”

Will Doncic and Irving be able to figure things out ahead of Game 3? Time will tell.
