A rematch of last year’s Wimbledon final is on the cards as Novak Djokovic beat Lorenzo Musetti in the semifinals to set up a title clash with Carlos Alcaraz. The Serbian stayed on the front foot from the start and registered a 6-4, 7-6(2), 6-4 win against the Italian.
Djokovic went into the semifinals after a two-day rest after Alex de Minaur withdrew from their quarterfinals due to injury. The additional rest seemed to have done him wonders as he started the match strongly and took control of the proceedings right away.
Musetti did his best to put himself back in the contest after losing the first set, taking the second set into a tiebreak. He however couldn’t find a way past the Serbian and found himself one set away from defeat. While he fended off three match points in the third set, Djokovic finally served out the match and wrapped up the contest in two hours and 48 minutes
Lorenzo Musetti with the point of the tournament against Novak Djokovic in the semis
Young Italian Lorenzo Musetti unfortunately had his dream run at Wimbledon end in the semifinals. In his maiden Grand Slam semifinals, he was up against an in-form Novak Djokovic.

Despite not being the strong favorite of the match, Musetti put up a good fight. He hit some fabulous returns, some good enough to be considered the best points of the tournament. In the second set, he hit a running backhand cross-court which was timed perfectly.
Such points, however, were far and fee in between. The net points also played a big role in the result. While Musetti only hit 55% of the net points, Djokovic won over 50 points at the net and kept around 77% of them in.
If Djokovic beats Carlos Alcaraz in the final on Sunday (July 14), he will become the oldest champion in the tournament’s history.
