Anthony Edwards recently sparked a heated debate in the NBA community with his bold claim that Michael Jordan was the only player with real skill back in the day. This statement quickly garnered attention and criticism from NBA legend Isiah Thomas.

Now, Lakers legend Magic Johnson has weighed in, adding fuel to the fire. In a recent interview with ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith, while appearing at the Yaamava Resort & Casino, Johnson didn’t hold back in responding to Edwards’ remarks.

“I never respond to a guy who’s never won a championship… He didn’t win a college championship; I don’t even know if he won a high school championship,” Johnson said.

Last season, Edwards led the Minnesota Timberwolves to their best postseason run since the 2003-04 season and played a pivotal role in the Timberwolves’ journey to the Western Conference Finals.

Then, they faced the Dallas Mavericks and lost their dominance in front of Luka Doncic’s team. However, Edwards had one of the best series, averaging 24.6 points, 8.8 rebounds, and 7.8 assists over five games.

NBA Fans Divided Over Magic Johnson’s Criticism of Anthony Edwards

Magic Johnson’s influence in the NBA is undeniable. With five championship titles, three Finals MVP awards, and three regular-season MVP accolades, his achievements speak volumes. Hence, Johnson’s comments on Anthony Edwards reflect his deep understanding of the game and the standards he upholds.

NBA fans had mixed reactions to Johnson’s candid remarks about the Minnesota Timberwolves’ young star. Some believe Johnson’s critique was fair, given his reputation for not making bold statements lightly. They argue that someone with Johnson’s legacy has the right to offer strong opinions on current players.

However, not all fans agreed with Johnson’s stance. Many defended Edwards, appreciating his willingness to express bold opinions, even if it meant challenging legends like Johnson.
