Jason Kelce recently shared a priceless story about how he and younger brother Travis once got physical during a recreational basketball game.
Travis and Jason Kelce are as close as brothers can get. You saw Travis cry during Jason’s retirement press conference, not to mention that the two co-host their popular “New Heights” podcast that draws millions of viewers.
The idea of Jason and Travis getting into a physical altercation seems crazy when you see how much fun they have together in public and behind the cameras.
But according to Jason, the fierce competition between the two once led to an all-out physical brawl in their home. The catalyst of the brawl? Nothing more than a recreational basketball game (Jason was a junior in high school, Travis a freshman), as he explained on Shaquille O’Neal’s “The Big Podcast” (via Us Weekly).
The confrontation got heated when Jason Kelce began fouling Travis, who was dominating the older brother in their game:
“He says, ‘That’s bulls—t, that’s a foul. I’m like, ‘I don’t see any refs out here. I don’t see anybody calling it.’ He picks the ball up, throws it at me and goes in the house. I’m like, ‘This motherf—ker just threw the ball at me?’
“I go in there, I grab him on the shoulder and I punch him…This was the second time I ever punched him. I don’t know how it got that heated. I punched him in the face…Every time before that he would cry or whatever. He took this punch, scooped me up off my feet and slammed me on the kitchen floor so hard the oven got knocked off the tracks.”
Jason added that the brawl only ended when they thought they injured their dad while he attempted to break up the scuffle. The former Philadelphia Eagles star center also said it was the last fight between the Kelce bros.
Jason announced his retirement from football after a 13-year career in March. The seven-time Pro Bowler and six-time First-team All-Pro led the Eagles to two NFC Championships and a Super Bowl 52 victory in the 2017 season.
Jason Kelce Now Begins His Career As An NFL Analyst
Soon after Kelce announced his retirement, ESPN hired the Eagles legend for an analyst gig on their “Monday Night Countdown” show. Kelce replaces former NFL quarterback Robert Griffin III, who was let go by the network last week.
ESPN’s first “Monday Night Football” game of 2024 takes place on Sept. 9, with Aaron Rodgers and the New York Jets traveling to the West Coast to take on the San Francisco 49ers at Levi’s Stadium.
