If the Bucks go for a guard, one of these players could be their best bet.
Purdue v Connecticut / Christian Petersen/GettyImagesThe NBA Draft is right around the corner, and the Milwaukee Bucks will have some decisions to make on draft night. They currently hold the 23rd and 33rd picks of the draft, and there are many directions they could go, including possibly trading the two picks completely.
Regardless, there definitely is a solid chance that the Bucks could end up looking to draft a guard. Milwaukee does not have a ton of guard depth, and they have been searching for defensive help at the guard position ever since the Damian Lillard trade.
If the Milwaukee Bucks do go that route, here are the top five guard prospects for them to monitor in the upcoming draft.
Keep in mind I am only including players who are realistic picks for the Bucks with their current picks (23rd and 33rd).
5. Ajay Mitchell (UCSB)
2023-24 stats:
6-foot-4, 200 pounds (6-foot-7 wingspan)
20 points, four rebounds, four assists per game
50 percent field goal shooting, 39 percent 3-point shooting, 86 percent free throw shooting
One of the sleeper guard prospects in this draft is Ajay Mitchell from UC Santa Barbara. He’s a versatile, crafty guard with solid size who can be impactful in a variety of ways. He is a great midrange scorer with floaters and pull-up jumpers, and he can also get to the rim, be a spot-up shooter, or be a playmaker for others.
Mitchell ranked in the 90th percentile scoring out of the pick-and-roll last season according to Synergy Sports (subscription required), and he also shot 44.8 percent on catch-and-shoot threes, per Synergy.
He is a guard who can play with or without the ball, as he excels cutting and finding open areas to shoot. On top of all this, he’s also a solid defender. Mitchell won’t blow anyone away with athleticism or explosiveness, but the Milwaukee Bucks need some more versatile players, and he can be used in several different ways.
