Venu Sports has announced its monthly subscription price, and it’s safe to say that fans aren’t feeling it.
The streaming platform, the result of a partnership between ESPN, FOX, and Warner Bros. Discovery, is set to launch this fall and will be available at $42.99 per month. Users would get a seven-day free trial and a subscription a the same price for a year with the option of canceling any time.
Per ESPN.com, the service will offer programming from the NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL, WNBA, NASCAR, plus college sports, golf, tennis, and soccer. However, it will only bring a fraction of games to screens over the course of respective seasons.
As a bonus users would have access to studio shows, pregame and postgame broadcasts, as well as ESPN’s ‘30 for 30’ library, ESPN Films, and documentaries from Fox Sports Films.
Fans don’t feel like they’re getting a great deal, however. You can see some of their reactions to the Venu Sports developments below:
Venu Sports Will Offer Content From 14 Networks
Meanwhile, Venu Sports will bring subscribers content from 14 linear networks, including ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, SEC Network, ACC Network, ESPNEWS, ABC, FOX, FS1, FS2, Big Ten Network, TNT, TBS, and truTV, as well as ESPN+.
There’s also the option of bundling with Disney+, Hulu, and/or Max.
“We will launch at a compelling price point that will appeal to the cord cutter and cord never fans currently not served by existing pay TV packages,” CEO Pete Distad said.
Despite the grand plans, the service still requires regulatory approval before launching.
FuboTV has also filed an antitrust lawsuit against the providers, claiming they have been trying to get a sports-only streaming service for years but couldn’t do so because ESPN, FOX, and Warner Bros. Discovery have bundling sanctions.
