When Jerry Jones brought back former running back Ezekiel Elliott this offseason, it was anticipated that he would be a big part of the team’s offense. However, this Wednesday, the team added another veteran Pro Bowler Dalvin Cook as the running back, which has instigated a wild reaction from the fans.

The Dallas Cowboys made the big move shortly after signing their star wide receiver CeeDee Lamb in a lucrative contract extension for four years, as his agency told NFL media. The Pro Bowler also visited the team earlier this week and will reportedly join the practice squad.

After having a successful run for four years with the Minnesota Vikings and earning four consecutive Pro Bowl honors, the seven-year veteran is coming off the worst season of his career in the New York Jets. Having Breece Hall in the lead, Cook barely got an opportunity to make an impact and had to finish the season with just 214 rushing yards on 3.2 yards per carry and without recording a single touchdown in the 15 games he played.

Following the disastrous year, he requested an early release which resulted in him joining the Baltimore Ravens for the postseason. However, there as well, he failed to show his prowess and settled with 23 rushing yards on 8 carries in the division-round victory.

In addition to this, he also suffered a shoulder injury and spent the entire offseason in rehab post-surgery. But between the chaos, Cook received one good news and that’s his health, as he revealed feeling “the best he has in years” and after landing a stable place, he might get back to his old form.

Fans react to the Cowboys signing Dalvin Cook despite having Ezekiel Elliott

At present, the Cowboys have three running backs on the active roster including Elliot, but they haven’t yet announced the 16-man practice squad which Cook will reportedly join. However, fans are quite shocked to see Dallas owner Jones making back-to-back splashy decisions regarding the roster.

Some Cowboys fans were thrilled to have the veteran running back duo of Elliot and Cook–both having just a few weeks difference in age. One fan exclaimed, “Jerry finally makes a huge offseason splash,” with a fire emoji, and another celebrated, “Zeke and Cook, if only this were 2019.” Here are some of the fan reactions:

However, other fans doubted this move by the Cowboys, given both Zeke and Cook are coming off a poor season with their respective teams. Some even claimed that Cook should have joined his former team, the Vikings, if he wanted a ring, suggesting he wouldn’t win Super Bowl with the Cowboys. Nonetheless, it would be quite thrilling to see Cook pairing up with Elliot in the offensive line with players such as Lamb, Tryon Smith, and Dak Prescott.
