The Straw Hat Pirates are the main focus of One Piece, and Sanji was the fourth person to join the crew. He may be a chef, but Sanji is actually one of the crew’s strongest fighters. He only uses his legs during combat, and he has mastered the Black Leg Style to the point that each kick is a devastating blow. Sanji has had many fights over the course of the series, but certain fights really stand out.

The majority of Sanji’s best fights have been against enemy pirates, but he has also fought a dear friend, and a family member. Most of these fights stand out because of the action, but a few of them also have some type of emotional impact. Certain fights are memorable because Sanji utilizes specific techniques for the very first time.

Each Straw Hat trained during the two-year timeskip, and the Fishman Island Arc allowed them all to showcase their newfound strength. Sanji fought a few Fishmen during the arc, but the standout bout involved Wadatsumi – the gigantic tiger blowfish fish-man who once served Vander Decken IX and the Flying Pirates. Jinbe was involved in this fight as well, but Sanji is the one who delivered the major blows.

This fight allowed Sanji to demonstrate his new Sky Walk technique, which is a variant of the Geppo technique used by Cipher Pol. He used Sky Walk to evade Wadatsumi’s attacks, but it also allowed him to attack the giant Fish-Man in midair. Sanji landed a ton of powerful kicks, but his final attack really stands out because his entire body was on fire. These flames only appeared because Sanji remembered being stuck with the Okama of Momoiro Island for two years. Those painful memories produced the flames – which made Sanji’s final attack cool and funny.

Vergo was a Marine Vice-Admiral, but he was actually a double-agent who served Doflamingo and the Donquixote Pirates. Sanji encountered him on Punk Hazard, and they ended up fighting because Vergo attacked Captain Tashigi. She may have been a Marine, but she is still a woman, and Sanji will defend any woman if they are being attacked by a man.

Their fight was actually more of a skirmish, but it had plenty of action. Sanji and Vergo exchanged kicks in quick succession, but it was clear that Vergo had the upper hand. Vergo sustained minimal damage despite getting kicked into a wall, but he managed to fracture Sanji’s leg with a single kick. At the time, no one knew that Vergo was a powerful Haki user, so most fans assumed that he was a powerful martial artist. Unfortunately, their fight was cut short by Caesar Clown’s poison gas.

He went on to become an officer of the Arlong Pirates – which made him one of the major antagonists of the Arlong Park Arc. Kuroobi and other members of the Arlong Pirates made Nami’s life a living hell, so Sanji was more than happy to fight him. At the time, Kuroobi’s physical strength was far greater than Sanji’s.

Kuroobi dealt a lot of damage to Sanji because he was a level 40 Fish-Man Karate black belt. Sanji was able to land some blows, but he was not able to cause severe damage. Sanji was determined to help Nami, so he pushed himself to keep fighting. Kuroobi tried to execute a finishing move, but Sanji managed to beat him into submission with a powerful kick before he could get the attack off. This was the first time Sanji defeated another pirate officer.

When Nico Robin was taken by CP9, Sanji tried to rescue her by boarding the Sea Train. While on the train, he encounters Wanze – a fellow cook who also happens to be a CP7 agent. He could not use advanced martial arts techniques like other agents, but he could use his own unique fighting style. This fighting style is called Ramen Kenpo, and like its name suggests, it turns ramen noodles into weapons.

Wanze wore a battle suit made of noodles, and he could deliver surprisingly strong punches. This fight is special because it is the first and only time Sanji uses actual weapons in a fight. Sanji refuses to use his hands or blades during combat because a chef needs to preseve both for cooking. Wanze’s food-based fighting style allowed him to make an exception. Sanji did end the fight with kicks, but he demonstrated that he is quite skilled with blades as well.

Page One was one of Kaido’s Flying Six – which means that he was a high-ranking member of the Beast Pirates. He can use Observation and Armament Haki, and he possesses an Ancient-Zoan Devil Fruit that allows him to transform into a Spinosaurus. Like other Ancient-Zoan users, Page One’s body is very durable, and the fruit’s carnivorous nature makes him more suitable for combat.

Sanji and Page One faced off in Wano, and it was the first time Sanji fought a strong opponent with his personalized Raid Suit. The suit enhanced all of Sanji’s physical abilities, and it allowed him to turn invisible. Page One was a ferocious fighter, and he managed to throw Sanji into some buildings. Fortunately, the Raid Suit allowed Sanji to outmaneuver Page One’s hybrid form. This fight was also the debut of Sanji’s Shooting Star Soba Kick – which feels like a real superhero attack.

He and Sanji fought each other while the other Starw Hats dealt with Crocodile and the other members of Baroque Works. Like Sanji, Bon Clay fought with his legs, but neither of them possessed Haki at the time. Bon Clay has the power of the Clone-Clone Fruit. This Paramecia allows him to duplicate another person’s appearance, but he can only do this if he has touched the individual.

During their fight, Bon Clay used his power to transform into Nami. He did this to take advantage of Sanji’s feelings and chivalry. Sanji would never hurt Nami, so Bon Clay’s plan did work for a time. Sanji eventually outsmarted him though. At one point, both fighters looked like spinning tops while they were exchanging blows. Their kicks were fast, hard, and precise, and the fight nearly ended in a draw because Sanji did fall to his knees.

In order to rescue Robin from the World Government, Sanji and the other Straw Hats needed to defeat all of the CP9 agents stationed at Enies Lobby. Sanji’s opponent ended up being Jabra – who happened to be CP9’s third strongest fighter. Jabra mastered several of the Rokushiki martial arts techniques, and he was able to combine Geppo and Shigan,to produce a deadly piercing attack.

Jabra’s Devil Fruit allows him to transform into a human-wolf hybrid – which means that he is basically a werewolf. Jabra’s body could withstand some of Sanji’s strongest kicks, but the cook was still able to get some good shots in. Sanji got hit quite a bit during this fight, but he kept getting back up. This fight marked the debut of Diable Jambe – one of Sanji’s signature techniques. At the time, some fans questioned how this technique was even possible, but it was still fun watching Sanji clobber a werewolf with it.

Sanji’s backstory was explored during the Whole Cake Island Arc. One Piece fans learned that Sanji’s last name was Vinsmoke, and that he was a prince from the Germa Kingdom. Judge Vinsmoke is Sanji’s estranged father, and he threatened to kill Zeff if Sanji did not marry Charlotte Pudding. Judge hated Sanji because he believed he was a failure. He thought this because Sanji had emotions, and because he lacked genetically enhanced strength.

They had a short bout in the Germa Kingdom, and Sanji proved to be a match for his father. He was able to dodge Judge’s spear thrusts with ease, and he forced Judge to block his heavy kicks. Sanji was even able to stop the blade of Judge’s spear with his leg. At the end of the fight, Sanji experienced flashes of his painful childhood – which led to him using Diable Jambe. Unfortunately, Judge used a human shield to gain the upper hand. In the end, Sanji only lost because he was a good person.

Sanji needed to leave the Straw Hats in order to protect Zeff, but he did not tell any of his crewmates about it. Luffy sailed into Big Mom’s territory to rescue him, and they had a confrontation as soon as they met. At the time, Sanji had to pretend that he was a real noble who disliked pirates. He even told Luffy that he did not believe he could become the next Pirate King. One Piece fans were heartbroken when Usopp fought Luffy, and this fight was just as emotional.

Unlike the Usopp fight, Luffy did not fight back, so the entire fight revolved around Sanji kicking Luffy. Sanji did not hold back, in fact most of his attacks were enhanced by Diable Jambe. These kicks injured Luffy’s rubber body, and the final kick managed to knock Luffy out for a few seconds. Nami witnessed the entire thing, and her emotions matched the audience’s. Luffy’s speech afterwards struck an emotional nerve too because he vowed to starve until Sanji returned.

Queen was one of Kaido’s three commanders, and he once worked with Judge Vinsmoke. Sanji and Queen clashed during the Onigashima Raid, and in terms of animation, it is by far Sanji’s best fight. Queen is a cyborg with potent Armament Haki, but he can also transform into a Brachiosaurus because of his Ancient-Zoan Devil Fruit. Thanks to his cybernetic enhancements, Queen can fire deadly laser beams while in his hybrid form.

Their fight lasted several episodes, and there was quite a bit of back and forth. As the fight progressed, Sanji gradually awakened his genetic enhancements – which had been dormant up until that point. Once this happened, Sanji was able to match Queen’s strength. These enhancements allowed Sanji’s Diable Jambe to evolve into Ifrit Jambe. This new technique was powerful enough to beat Queen because it combined Sanji’s genetics and Armament Haki. In the end, the fight with Queen cemented Sanji as one of One Piece’s strongest Yonko Commanders.
