Oprah Winfrey has been hospitalised, causing her to miss a scheduled appearance on CBS this week.

The 70-year-old was due to feature on CBS Mornings on Tuesday to promote the book Familiaris by David Wroblewski, the latest addition to her renowned Oprah’s Book Club. However, show anchor and close friend Gayle King informed viewers of Oprah’s absence.

“She had some kind of stomach thing – stomach flu – stuff was coming out of both ends,’ Gayle candidly revealed. “Won’t get too graphic. Needless to say, she ended up in the hospital, dehydration, had to get an IV, it was a very serious thing.”

Gayle expressed hope that her friend wouldn’t mind her sharing details of her illness and reassured: “She will be okay. ”

Despite Oprah’s absence, David still appeared on the show to promote his book and her absence didn’t stop Oprah from promoting it on her social media. On her book club’s Instagram page, Oprah posted a photo of herself, grinning at the camera while holding up David’s book. “I’m delighted for us to dive into an epic novel from the tremendously talented bestselling author,” Oprah captioned the post.

“David takes us on an extraordinary journey that brilliantly interweaves history, philosophy, adventure, and mysticism to explore the meaning of love, friendship, and living your life’s true purpose,” she continued.

Oprah’s hospitalisation follows her admission of using weight loss drugs similar to Ozempic. “I was actually recommending it to people long before I was on it myself,” Oprah revealed in a chat with PEOPLE.

“The fact that there’s a medically-approved prescription for managing weight and staying healthier, in my lifetime, feels like relief, like redemption, like a gift,” she added.

Oprah shared how being ridiculed for her weight over the years deeply affected her. She expressed: “I have been blamed and shamed, and I blamed and shamed myself.”
