The Cubs are making a change for their struggling catcher position.

The Cubs have designed veteran catcher Yan Gomes for assignment and signed catcher Tomas Nido to the active roster.

Gomes, 36, was hitting .154 with two home runs and seven RBIs over 33 games this season. He has been with the Cubs since 2022.

Nido, 29, is hitting .229 with three home runs and eight RBIs in 32 games this season with the Mets, who released him this week.

The Cubs host the Giants on Wednesday afternoon in the rubber match of their three-game series at Wrigley Field.
