One Piece chapter 1118 was absolutely sensational in more ways than one, and fans got to witness some of the most incredible plot twists in the series. As Egghead Island continued to wrap up, fans did not expect much combat in the ongoing chapters of the story. However, Oda has decided to give them one last big skirmish from the side of the Straw Hat Pirates against the Elders so that they can secure the escape from the island safely.

As such, One Piece chapter 1118 was absolutely massive in that regard, as Luffy took to utilizing the power of Gear 5 once again, but he wasn’t the only one who did so. Along with him, Bonney also tapped into the power of Gear 5 and has now fully manifested the power of Nika, making her one of the strongest individuals in the entire series. Officially, there are two Nika in One Piece now.

Luffy As The First Nika

Luffy Awakened The Nika Power In The Wano Country Arc

Luffy was always destined to be Nika and much of that is down to his personality. As fans know, certain Devil Fruits pick out their users themselves. This is evident from the very beginning of the story, and of course, this fact was reinstated by the Five Elders in One Piece chapter 1044 as well. The Elders clearly stated that the Zoan Devil Fruits have a will of their own, which essentially implies that they seek out their users or the people who match them the best. This was one of the reasons why Nika Devil Fruit eluded the Five Elders, no matter how hard they tried to get it throughout the centuries. It is also why this Devil Fruit is currently in the possession of Luffy. This Devil Fruit wanted to be eaten by him, and that explains one of the core aspects of it.

The idea of fruits choosing their eaters might not necessarily be unique to the Zoans of One Piece. In fact, it could also apply to other fruit types in the One Piece world. There are many abilities in One Piece that just seemingly fit the individual who eats them. The most explicit example of this is Blackbeard gaining the power of the Yami Yami no Mi. This is a darkness Devil Fruit, and Blackbeard clearly stated that the ability chose him, and he was certainly fitting for him as well. Regardless, for Luffy, it can be said that his personality attracted the Devil Fruit to him, and it knew that he would go on to become the next Nika. Luffy trained this power relentlessly over the years, and in the Wano Country Arc, he hit the next level.

After being killed by Kaido, Luffy’s Devil Fruit finally awakened and this led to his heart beating the Drums of Liberation and him gaining an all-white transformation. This transformation boosted Luffy’s power tremendously, given that this was an awakened form. This form is called Gear 5, and it allows him to bring out the true abilities of this fruit.

With this power, Luffy can now fight with as much freedom as he possibly can and seemingly bring about just anything that he imagines into reality. Luffy has become the Warrior of Liberation using this power, and it can be said that he got strong enough to beat even someone as strong as Kaido. Ever since Wano, Luffy has utilized this power extensively on Egghead Island, and he will continue to do that in the future of One Piece as well.

Bonney Awakens As The Second Nika

Bonney Has Gained Gear 5 Using The Toshi Toshi no Mi

Unlike Luffy, Bonney never had the ability of the Nika fruit. There is absolutely no connection between Bonney and the Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Nika. However, that certainly does not mean that she cannot utilize this power. Bonney’s connection to Nika is through her own Devil Fruit, which is the Toshi Toshi no Mi. This fruit allows her to change the age of anyone temporarily, including herself, once she touches them with the palms of her hands. However, the ability that makes this Devil Fruit truly overpowered is the Distorted Future. This is one of the most incredible powers that essentially allows Bonney to envision any future for herself or someone else and then turn that into reality.

The only downside of this transformation is that Bonney needs to fully believe in the future that she envisions, and if she wavers, then she cannot utilize the power and bring about the future that she wants. Still, it is an absolutely incredible power that Bonney will most likely utilize on many occasions in the future of One Piece. Prior to the Egghead Island Arc of One Piece, Bonney did not know what Nika looked like. She only heard descriptions of him and was thus only able to utilize a portion of his powers. Bonney could manifest the rubbery aspect of Nika’s body, and that is how she defeated Alpha, one of the members of the Cipher Pol.

In Egghead, however, Bonney got first-hand experience of how Nika fights. She even got to see Nika with her own eyes using his full white transformation. Now, she has a clearer idea of what Nika looks like, what powers he has, and how he fights. This essentially opens the door for Bonney to utilize the power of Gear 5 as well.

In One Piece chapter 1118, Luffy showcased Gear 5 to Bonney once again and helped her transform along with him. Now, Bonney has access to the all-white Nika transformation as well, and she is going to fight alongside Luffy as the second Nika.

How Strong Are Luffy And Bonney Together As Nika On Egghead?

Luffy and Bonney Can Fight Back Against An Elder Easily

Together, Luffy and Bonney are incredibly powerful. However, fans need to keep in mind that both of them have some limitations. For Luffy, the biggest limitation is that he has already overexerted himself and he will not be able to maintain the Nika transformation for long. For Bonney, the limitations are many that make her weaker than Luffy right now. For instance, Bonney is already weaker, given that her base strength is not as great as that of Luffy. Secondly, she is not a user of Haki, which does boost Luffy’s powers greatly, and, most importantly, Distorted Future has a time limit and cannot be utilized for long periods of time, at least until Bonney gaines full control over her abilities or awakens it.
