Piers Morgan reacted to Nigel Farage’s disastrous appearance on the BBC Election Debate and said his popularity is ‘massively overstated’.

On Friday, the UK’s general election campaign continued with leading figures from the major political parties in attendance. The likes of Conservative Party’s Penny Mordaunt, Labour Party’s Angela Rayner, Limberal Democrats’ Daisy Cooper and Nigel Farage, leader of the Reform UK, took part in the debate.

Scottish National Party’s Stephen Flynn, Rhun ap Iorwerth appeared for Plaid Cymru while Carla Denyer represented the Green Party. Farage gave controversial answers while claiming this year’s general election should be “the immigration election”. While watching the debate, presenter Piers took to his social media to share his opinions on the politician-turned-reality star.

Writing on his Twitter page, the former Good Morning Britain presenter said: “This audience hates Farage, just as the Question Time audience did last week. Remember that he came 3rd on I’m A Celebrity, losing to a retired boxer and someone I’d never heard of. His popularity is massively overstated.”

Meanwhile, viewers were focused on one specific person in the live audience of the BBC Election Debate this week and rushed to social media to joke about the real winner of the night. Amid several bad-tempered answers from the likes of Nigel Farage and Penny Mordaunt, the camera kept cutting back to one man in the audience who was following the action with a right old scowl on his face.

Viewers were delighted when the camera kept panning to someone who hilariously reacted to politicians’ answers – in particular when Farage claimed the general election should be “the immigration election”. TV reviewer Scott Bryan tweeted a clip of the camera cutting away from Reform UK leader Farage to the man in the white t-shirt.

“The man shaking his head is a meme,” he declared. “My favourite person in this debate so far is the man who shakes his head in disgust every time Nigel Farage spouts his bile,” tweeted another, while a third wrote: “Shout out to this head-shaking trio in the audience as #Farage was spouting out his usual cr*p!”

“To the lad shaking his head every time Farage opens his mouth: we’re with you,” said another X user, while yet another pointed out: “They keep panning the camera to the bloke in the front row shaking his head every time Farage speaks!”
