Anthony Edwards may not have yet brought an NBA title to the Minnesota Timberwolves, but he played a key role in securing gold for Team USA at the Paris Olympics. In his debut Olympics, the Wolves star showcased the poise of a veteran Olympian, helping Team USA to its fifth straight gold medal.
However, when asked about his interest in future participation in the FIBA Basketball World Cup, Edwards left no room for doubt. In an interview with The Athletic’s Joe Vardon, Edwards firmly ruled out his involvement, stating, “Hell nah.”
This response might be disappointing for fans of Team USA. On the court, Edwards is one of the league’s most promising young talents. His leadership was crucial for Team USA in Paris.
The young star was also a significant contributor during the 2023 FIBA World Cup. With him, Team USA finished fourth after a tough loss to Canada in the bronze medal game.
Will Anthony Edwards Participate in the 2028 Summer Olympics?
The 2028 Summer Olympic Games in Los Angeles are expected to mark a generational shift in Team USA’s basketball roster. With LeBron James already hinting that he may not participate, and the availability of stars like Kevin Durant and Stephen Curry also uncertain, the focus is turning to the next wave of talent.
Among them is Anthony Edwards, whose status for the 2028 Games in Los Angeles remains unclear. When asked about his potential involvement in 2028, Edwards remained focused on the present.
“I can’t speak on that. I can only speak on what I got around my neck right now. This was the most fun I ever had playing basketball,” he said, as reported by NBA.com’s Shaun Powell.
During the Paris Olympics, Edwards averaged 12.8 points and 1.2 assists in 16.3 minutes per game across six appearances. In the gold medal game against France, he added 8 points and one rebound.
