But before he was released, Roy suffered a horrifying attack after Griff broke into his cell and forced him to admit where he hid Lauren’s body.

When Roy refused to confess a thing he didn’t do, things took a sinister turn and Griff demanded Roy to kill himself.

He asked Roy to write a suicide note confessing to Lauren’s murder.

Roy begged Griff to let him call his niece Nina before he died.

While on the phone to Nina, Roy sobbed and Griff attempted to strangle him.

In tense scenes, viewers spotted Roy was clutching onto a wedding photograph of him and and his late wife Hayley, leaving them heartbroken.

Taking to social media, one viewer said: “Roy clutching a photo of Hayley. Nina and Carla clutching each other. Roy hugging Nina. MY HEARTTTTTTT #Corrie”

Another wrote: “Poor Roy, desperately clutching his beloved pic of him with his precious Hayley, thinking he was just about to be reunited with her literal any second now sadly.”

A third penned: “Him clutching his picture of Hayley was beautiful. Amazing episode!”

Luckily, the prison security guards broke into Roy’s cell just in time to stop Griff from murdering Roy.

Stunned Corrie fans say killer Joel’s secret was teased in his FIRST scene
Roy was soon released as Nathan Curtis was charged with Lauren’s murder after finding a strand of her hair in his van.

However, at the end of the episode, viewers learned the real culprit behind Lauren’s disappearance and violent attack was Joel Deering.

And the only Weatherfield resident who may know this is Hope Stape, after she found Lauren’s missing necklace while cleaning his car – but will she tell anyone?

Meanwhile, Corrie fans are also suspicious of newcomer and dodgy police cop Kit Green.

Kit purposely pulled out a hair from the bag he’d taken from Sarah and planted it in Nathan’s van.

Joel demanded to know if Nathan’s claims were true, and Kit insisted that he saw Sarah and she didn’t go near his van – insisting he called DS Swain but she didn’t pick up.

Swain checked her call log and saw he had called so Joel said he accepted that Nathan was lying.

But there was an intriguing look between him and Kit that Swain appeared not to notice.

Fans are now convinced that Kit and Joel are working together.

One fan wrote: “My final prediction is tonight’s episode will make it look as if Lauren is dead then finish on a “cliff hanger” that Joel is responsible.

“Then tomorrow’s episode will be mainly flashbacks showing how he got there, him and Kit are working together, then finish by showing Lauren alive and locked up somewhere.”

Another added: “Still think there’s something going on between Kit and Joel. I think they may be adoptive brothers or have some other connection.”

A third penned: “I reckon Kit planted that hair because he’s working with Joel.”

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 8pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
