Gipson, a free agent, spent the last two seasons with the San Francisco 49ers and is looking for a new home after breathing new life into his career following a move to the Niners.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the 33-year-old was determined to have violated the NFL’s PED policy and will miss the first six games of the upcoming 2024 season should he sign with another team.
Gipson became the starter at free safety for San Francisco after being signed for extra depth prior to the 2022 season and was brought back on a one-year deal worth $2.9 million.

The former Cleveland Browns DB started 16 games last season, making 60 tackles, a sack, and an interception, having recorded 61 tackles and five interceptions the season before. He made five of his 14 playoff tackles in the Super Bowl against the Kansas City Chiefs.
Gipson joined the Browns as an undrafted free agent out of Wyoming in 2012 and spent four years with the AFC outfit before joining the Jacksonville Jaguars, where he stayed for three seasons. He spent one season with the Houston Texans and two with the Chicago Bears before his move to San Francisco. He was a Pro Bowler in 2014.
The free agent has recorded 684 tackles, 33 INTs, and three touchdowns in 173 games in the pros, starting 165 of those.
His suspension will not go into effect until the start of the regular season, leaving him free to participate in all preseason activities if he signs with a team.
