All-Star big man Kristaps Porzingis sustained an injury during Game 2 of the NBA Finals which gave Matt Barnes and Stephen Jackson some problems. The former NBA players and now hosts of All The Smoke gave an update on the Boston Celtics big man’s injury.

The Celtics announced that Porzingis has suffered a “torn medial retinaculum, allowing dislocation of the posterior tibialis tendon” in his left leg. Earlier, the former fourth-overall pick was asked about his injury. According to him, he doesn’t think the injury is serious.

The 7-foot-2 big center suffered the injury during the third period of the game. With less than five minutes left in the period, Porzingis tried to battle against Mavs rookie Dereck Lively II for a rebound at the free throw line.

Porzingis played well in Game 2 as he came off the bench, similar to the Celtics’ approach in Game 1. The Latvian player finished the game with 12 points, four rebounds and two blocks to help Boston capture the win.

New update on Kristaps Porzingis’ injury

The Celtics released a new update on the status of Kristaps Porzingis ahead of Game 3. The big man is now listed as questionable after he was initially labeled as “day-to-day.” The one-time All-Star remains optimistic on his availability for the next game as he’s an integral member of the squad.

“I’m optimistic,” Porzingis said. “As I said, I will do everything I can to be out there tomorrow. … Nothing’s going to stop me, unless I’m told I’m not allowed to play. That’s the only reason I would not be out there, but tomorrow we’ll see.”

Porzingis sustained a calf injury during the first round against the Miami Heat, which has kept him out for most of the postseason. He made his return in Game 1 of the Finals.

Through the first two games of the NBA Finals, the 2015-16 All-Rookie member has averaged 16 points, five rebounds and 2.5 blocks.
