Canelo Alvarez has insisted he doesn’t have any interest in Mike Tyson and Jake Paul’s fight.

YouTuber-turned-boxer Paul has been subject to huge amounts of criticism since ditching his internet fame for a ring career and his latest fight against 57-year-old boxing legend Tyson hasn’t done him any favours. There will be over a 30-year age gap between the pair when they meet in the ring on July 20 at the 80,000 seat AT&T Stadium in Texas.

Alvarez’s name has been on the tip of Paul’s tongue in the past few years, but the undisputed super-middleweight champion has played down the fight. When asked about his thoughts on Tyson vs Paul by TMZ, Alvarez said: “With Netflix being involved, yes, that’s good. But, not [interested] in that kind of fight. I think it’s more [of a] show than a fight.”

Paul extended his professional record to 9-1 earlier this month with an easy KO of unknown boxer Ryan Bourland in the first round. The social media sensation even apologised to fans for the fight being over so quickly and tried to lure Alvarez into a fight by calling him out again.

“Canelo, stop ducking. I know you want it. I’m repping Puerto Rico and you’re repping Mexico, so it’s Puerto Rico vs Mexico. I want all the biggest names, I’m the face of this sport, who is doing more for boxing than me? The most-followed boxer and most viral KO’s, period,” Paul said.

Many of the fight details are currently unclear and it’s understood both Paul and Tyson want it to be sanctioned as a professional bout. If the fight takes place as an exhibition bout, Paul and Tyson will be wearing 16-ounce boxing gloves instead of the traditional 10-ounce gloves used in professional fights. Rounds will be two minutes instead of three and no judges will score the fight.

Paul’s Most Valuable Promotions business partner Nakisa Bidarian has slammed rumours about the ruleset by saying: “Breaking news, there is no news. Stop spreading fake news. There is no truth to all of this stuff around Jake Paul vs Mike Tyson. Here’s what is true, Mike Tyson is in unbelievable shape and is training like he hasn’t in many years. He’s looking scary for Jake Paul.”
